What your board requires

The requirement depends on your association type. Filter the finder to condo, HOA, or co-op.

HOA · Ch. 720
New director
4-hour approved curriculum within 90 days of election
Ongoing
4 hrs/yr (under 2,500 parcels) · 8 hrs/yr (2,500+)
Certificate valid 4 years
New director education was created by HB 1203, effective 2024.
Cooperative · Ch. 719
New director
Sign a written certification you've read the governing documents, or optionally take a course

Valid for uninterrupted service
No course hours are required; most co-op directors simply sign. Co-ops kept the lighter, pre-2024 rules.

Educational summary only, not legal advice. Requirements are point-in-time and change. Confirm your specific requirement with the Florida DBPR, and take legal questions to your association's attorney.

How we verify you: board members don't hold a state license, so we confirm your seat against your association's Florida non-profit corporate filing on Sunbiz, the state's official director list. That's used to confirm your identity only, and is never shown to course providers or other members. Membership is free for verified board members.
